Choosing Joy

Today, my very good friend Seth told me that we are all in transition. Hmmm. I am reading a memoir by one of my all time favorite authors, Isabel Allende, and I remembered reading this several years ago:

"Each of us chooses the tone for telling his or her own story. I would like to choose the durable clarity of a platinum print, but nothing in my destiny possesses the luminosity. I live among diffuse shadings, veiled mysteries, uncertainties; the tone of telling my life is closer to that of a portrait in sepia." — Isabel Allende (Portrait in Sepia)

As I transition in life, with all my many diffuse shadings, I seek a story of joy. My uncertainties and embracing the gray are things to be joyful about. I choose joy.

From the mouth of children come some of the most profound statements...we are all in transition. Perfect.

This bring to mind a book I just finished called "Major Dream: From Immigrant Housemaid to Harvard Ph.D." by Jin Kyu Robertson Ph.D. Talk about a person who managed to transition...she lived the American Dream. An excellent read if you're looking for a great memoir.
